Junior Scientist in Upstream Process Development (m/f/d)

Upstream Process Development at CEVEC

The Upstream Process Development (USP) group at CEVEC is responsible for the development of production processes for recombinant viral vectors and glycoproteins based on suspension mammalian cell lines. You will work in a team, which is responsible for conducting experiments from small- to mid-scale bioreactors, as well as screening using scale-down models using high throughput platforms.

Position Description

  • Work on the continuous development and optimization of our production platforms
  • Conducting experiments according to our SOPs or GPs and document the work according to quality control guidelines
  • Write project plans, scientific reports, and SOPs
  • Supervise and train technical staff
  • Participate in laboratory maintenance tasks
  • Project management of customer projects as well as internal projects
  • Work in multidisciplinary project teams, cooperating with:
    • Members from other departments at Cevec
    • External partners and customers
  • Evaluate data and communicate experimental results in internal and external meetings

Position Requirements

  • You hold a master or a doctorate degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Bioprocessing Engineering or equivalent
  • In-depth knowledge of mammalian cell culture and sterile liquid handling techniques
  • 5+ years of experience with bioprocessing
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in upstream process development, particularly with:
    • Cultivation of suspension mammalian cells (fermentation is acceptable)
    • Stirred-tank bioreactor systems
    • Virus production
  • Experience in project management
  • Proficient in English (spoken and written)
  • Basic-Intermediate German knowledge
